Bringing a Global Perspective to Students via Telesimulation

The aim of this Simulation Based Experience (SBE) was to replicate a global initiative via telesimulated environment. Due COVID-19, all study abroad trips were canceled by both the University and governments United States Peru. In order facilitate learning goals objectives, faculty developed fully functional, online module Zoom, which simulated in-country experiences. Three four-hour Zoom sessions allowed utilize INASCL standards best practice SBE activities such as pre post-operative education for an Embedded Participant (EP) playing role patient (INACSL Standards Committee, 2016; Lioce et al., 2020). 80% students attempted speak Spanish over course SBE. During debrief process, asked provide affective words regarding indicated trepidation in utilizing language not understanding content. On final day simulation, found value collaboration process. Telesimulation be immersed unknown culture, use breakout rooms encouraged engagement with EP one-on-one. remote simulation is plausible replacement HFPS due COVID-19 pandemic.
